About Parc Borely
The Parc Borely, which covers 18 hectares including 1.2 hectares for the Botanical Garden, is the most popular of Marseille's green spaces. It houses an 18th century bastide, enhanced by a garden "à la française" and a landscaped park of the nineteenth century. The garden keeps the imprint of the engineer and architect Embry, intervened on the site in 1775.
Between 1860 and 1880, the City of Marseille called on Alphand plantation engineer of the City of Paris to create a public park in the property. He entrusted the execution of the project to his collaborator Barillet-Deschamps.
The juxtaposition of the park and the garden "à la française" gives Borély an additional charm. Its paths are popular with joggers and walkers who enjoy strolling between the rose garden or discover the rare species of the Botanical Garden. The lake, its pier, its refreshment room and its restaurant complete the multiple attractions of the site. Borely is also a paradise for children with two playgrounds and many spaces.
In 1995, the rock waterfall of the nineteenth century was chosen to serve as a showcase for the original work of Jean-Michel Folon "Man with birds". The same year, an educational trail to discover the ious riches of the park was set up. The signage of the plants presents the most remarkable trees of the park. The identification of the lake's birds is approached in a similar way, as well as each of its centers of interest sculptures, monuments, buildings ....
