Musee Fesch
About Musee Fesch
The Musee Fesch is the focal exhibition hall of expressive arts in Ajaccio on Corsica. Situated inside the gated Palais Fesch, it is in the town's Borgu d'Ajaccio quarter. It was built up by Napoleon I's uncle, cardinal Joseph Fesch, in Fesch's origination. The activity to fabricate the historical center was taken by Napoleon I's maternal uncle, cardinal Joseph Fesch, ecclesiastical overseer of Lyons and the primate of the Gauls. It was Fesch's desire to set up an Institute of Arts and Sciences in the place where he grew up. Before he passed on in 1839, Fesch gave 1000 works of art including 843 compositions, from his vast accumulation of more than 17,000, to the exhibition hall.
The historical center was first planned in 1806 however development began just in 1827 with the endeavors of Mgr Peraldi, the cardinal's companion and operator. In 1829, the development was hindered by the then legislature of Bourbons as it was viewed as a slight to the administration since its rich structure and show and was finished by Peraldi who had been banished to Rome following the fall of the realm. The development was continued in 1833 and finished in 1852, the Corsican designer Frassato coordinated this phase of development.
