Maubeuge
About Maubeuge
Maubeuge is a collective in the Nord division in northern France. It is arranged on the two banks of the Sambre, 36 km east of Valenciennes and around 9 km from the Belgian fringe. Maubeuge owes its cause to Maubeuge Abbey, a twofold religious community, for people, established in the 7th century by Saint Aldego, the relics of whom are protected in the congregation. It thusly had a place with the domain of Hainaut. The town was a piece of the Spanish Netherlands and changed hands various occasions before it was at last surrendered to France in the 1678 Treaty of Nijmegen.
As a component of Vauban's pre carre plan that ensured France's northern fringes with a twofold line of strongholds, it was widely strengthened as coordinated by Louis XIV of France. Blockaded in 1793 by Prince Josias of Coburg, it was diminished by the triumph of Wattignies, which is remembered by a landmark in the town. It was ineffectively attacked in 1814, yet was constrained to surrender, after a vivacious opposition, in the Hundred Days.
