About Jean Cocteau Museum

The Jean Cocteau Museum/Severin Wunderman Collection is an exhibition hall in Menton, on the French Riviera, in the Alpes-Maritimes division. Devoted to the French craftsman Jean Cocteau, it fuses the gathering of American businessperson and Cocteau fan Severin Wunderman. The choice to make the exhibition hall was made by the Menton city committee in December 2003. A universal challenge was held by the board in 2007, with a victor for the plan of the historical center d in June 2008.

The establishment stone was laid in December 2008, with the shell finished in January 2011. Partitioned into seven sections, the exhibition hall contains very nearly 1000 realistic works by Cocteau, with most of the gathering from authority Severin Wunderman. Wunderman was 19 when he started gathering works by Cocteau. He had offered his accumulation to the University of Texas, yet later pulled back the offer, keeping his gathering in his very own Cocteau historical center in Irvine, California, which he committed in 1985.

He would as often as possible loan pieces to displays and shows. The work Cocteau left upon his demise in 1963 was recorded by Annie Guedras, who recognized somewhere around three dozen fakes and duplicates among the pieces, some of which were bound for Wunderman's gift to the historical center. The historical center did in the end pull back the works in question. Guedras later felt that she was avoided from the Cocteau Committee that made the exhibition hall in the mid 2000s due to her disclosure.
