Isola 2000
About Isola 2000
Isola 2000 is a ski hotel inside the southern French Alps. It is positioned at the territory of the commune of Isola, Alpes Maritimes. It is one of the Stations du Mercantour at the side of Auron and St Dalmas and is operated by means of the council of the Alpes Maritimes. It is positioned subsequent to the Mercantour National Park, and is set 90 km from Nice, France. The region was a part of the County of Nice within the Kingdom of Piedmont Sardinia. In 1861, with Italy unification it has become part of the Province of Cuneo. In 1947 following the treaty of Paris the place became given to France.
The concept of a ski resort close to the small town of Isola first came from a British Army ex-officer, and Olympic skier, Peter Boumphrey, within the past due 1960s after he observed a basin inside the southern French Alps on a map. The local village of Isola owned the land he desired to construct the hotel on a small town located at an altitude of 900m with poor possibilities for improvement as citizens had been migrating to the cities.
