Indre et Loire

Indre-et-Loire is a department in west central France named after the Indre River and Loire River. In 2016, it had a population of 606,223. Sometimes referred to as Touraine, the call of the historical location, it nowadays is a part of the Centre Val de Loire region. Its prefecture is Tours and sub prefectures are Chinon and Loches. Indre-et-Loire is a touristic vacation spot for its numerous monuments which are a part of the Chateaux of the Loire Valley. Indre-et-Loire is one of the unique 83 departments installed in the course of the French Revolution on four March 1790. It became made out of the previous province of Touraine.
