About Haute Savoie
Haute-Savoie is a department within the Auvergne Rhone Alpes area of Southeastern France, bordering both Switzerland and Italy. Its prefecture is Annecy. To the north is Lake Geneva and Switzerland to the south and southeast are the Mont Blanc and Aravis mountain degrees. It holds its name from the Savoy historic location as does the branch of Savoie, positioned south of Haute Savoie. In 2016, it had a populace of 8,01,416. Its sub prefectures are Bonneville, Saint Julien en Genevois and Thonon les Bains.
Before 1860, the territory occupied by present day Haute Savoie and the adjacent department of Savoie had been part of the Kingdom of Sardinia since the Treaty of Utrecht in 1713. Annexation of the location with the aid of France becomes formalized within the Treaty of Turin on March 24, 1860. From November 1942 to September 1943, Haute Savoie becomes subjected to navy career with the aid of Fascist Italy.
