About Harfleur
Harfleur is a cooperative in the Seine-Maritime division in the Normandy area of northern France. It was the essential seaport in north-western France for 6 centuries, until Le Havre was worked around 5 kms downstream in the 16th century to exploit safe havens less inclined to siltation. Harfleur is presently on the eastern edge of Le Havre's urban zone. A light mechanical town arranged in the Pays de Caux by the banks of the Seine and Lezarde streams, around 9.7 km east of Le Havre, at the intersection of the N282, D231 and D9015 streets. SNCF railroads have a station here. In Roman occasions, Harfleur was known as Caracotinum, the foremost port of the old Calates. A Roman street drove from Harfleur to Troyes. Another street that vanished amid the 100 years war connected Harfleur to Fecamp. A few Merovingian stone caskets have been uncovered at the foot of Mount Cabert. In the middle ages, the town's name, Herosfloth, Harofluet or Hareflot, was still adequately uncorrupted to show its Norman starting points.
Spots of intrigue:
• The congregation of St-Martin, dating from the 14th century,
• The 17th century Hotel de Ville town corridor,
• Medieval defenses,
• The 15th century historical centers of angling and of archaic exploration and history.
