About Fort Saint
The Fort Saint-Elme is a navy citadel constructed among 1538 and 1552 through Charles V. It is placed in the district of Collioure, 30 km south-east of Perpignan, inside the branch of Pyrenees-Orientales. It is unique as a monument historique of the Cote Vermeille. Since 2008, the castle has been a museum with medieval and Renaissance palms collections, exhibitions and a landscape over the region from the terrace.
The records of Fort Saint-Elme started with the edification of the watchtower within the 8th century, i.e. Either during the length whilst Arab-Berber troops occupied Septimania between 719 and 759. Integrated to the Marca Hispanica, the tower belonged to the independent Counts of Roussillon till the dying with out heirs of Girard II of Roussillon in 1172.
