About Eu
Eu is a cooperative in the Seine-Maritime office in the Normandy district in northern France. Eu is situated close to the drift in the eastern piece of the office, close to the fringe with Picardy. Its tenants are referred to in French as the Eudois. The County of Eu was made in 996 by Duke Richard I of Normandy for his ill-conceived child Geoffrey, Count of Brionne. It was a walk shielding Normandy from attack from the east.
In 1050, William, Duke of Normandy, the future William the Conqueror and ruler of England, wedded Matilda, the girl of the Count of Flanders, at the house of prayer of the château in Eu. The house of prayer is the main piece of this mansion which still stands today. In 1180, Laurence O'Toole, the diocese supervisor of Dublin and ecclesiastical legate, fell sick at Eu on his approach to meet King Henry II of England.
He kicked the bucket there. He was exalted in 1186 and consecrated in 1225 as St Laurence, turning into the benefactor holy person of the town. The university church was named for the Virgin Mary and for him, Notre-Dame et Saint-Laurent, and still holds some of his saved relics. In the twelfth century, King Richard I of England, who was likewise Duke of Normandy, assembled the city dividers.
