About Etampes
Etampes is a commune in the metropolitan area of Paris, France. A fine perspective on Etampes is gotten from the Tour Guinette, a keep worked by Louis VI in the twelfth century on a prominence on the opposite side of the railroad. Notre-Dame du Fort, the central church, dates from the 11th and 12th century; unpredictable in plan, it is noteworthy for a fine Romanesque pinnacle and tower, and for the crenelated divider which halfway encompasses it.
The inside contains antiquated depictions and other imaginative works. St Basile, which protects a Romanesque entryway, and St Martin, with an inclining tower of the 16th century, are of less significance. The civil buildings offer little interest, yet two houses named after Anne de Pisseleu, paramour of Francis I, and Diane de Poitiers, fancy woman of Henry II, are effortless instances of Renaissance engineering. In the square there is a statue of the naturalist, Etienne Geoffroy Saint-Hilaire, who was conceived in Etampes.
