About Cremieu
Cremieu is a commune within the Isere department in southeastern France. This small medieval village of 3,500 inhabitants hosts a celebration referred to as "Les Medievales" each year in September, which reconstitutes the life-style of the Middle Ages. The seal of the region consists of a dolphin. The inhabitants of this village are also called "les dauphinois" from the noun "dauphin" in French. The nearby dish is "le gratin dauphinois" that's a wealthy potato gratin.
It is placed close to Bourgoin-Jallieu, about 25 miles east of Lyon. Cremieu has a long and vital medieval history. First ancient references to Cremieu date again to the 12th century, while a Benedictine priory changed into built high at the cliffs of Saint-Hippolyte. The town itself, however, grew up throughout the 13th century, on the southern slopes of Saint-Laurent hill and overlooking the partitions of the royal fort which the Dauphins of La Tour commenced to repair in 1282. In 1315, the metropolis become granted critical civic and trading rights which marked the beginning of two centuries of prosperity.
