About Chateau Vieux
Chateau Vieux also referred to as the Old Castle of Bayonne is a castle located in Bayonne, Nouvelle Aquitaine, France. The fortress has been rebuilt in many instances over the centuries. The citadel became constructed at the web page of a Roman cestrum which housed the garrison and administration of the area named "Lapurdum". From the quit of the 11th century, the Viscounts of Labored start constructing a fortress across the 3 Roman towers and partitions across the city, as their house.
The forts have become English upon the Duchy of Aquitaine, being inherited by using the English crown. After the French took career of the fort and town in 1294, an English force led by using John St John, laid siege to the metropolis. On 1 January 1295 the citizens of Bayonne drove the French garrison into the fortress and opened the metropolis gates to St John. The French garrison of the castle surrendered after a siege of 11 days.
