About Chateau de Carrouges

The Chateau de Carrouges is a chateau, courting in part from the 14th century, positioned in the commune of Carrouges, within the Orne branch, Normandy, northern France. It is unusual in its combination of an austere fort with a comfortable residence. The authentic fortifications at Carrouges have been besieged and destroyed by way of English forces during the Hundred Years War. After the battle, the château was rebuilt via Jean Blosset, grand seneschal of Normandy, within the fifteenth century.

In the sixteenth century, the family of Le Veneur de Tillieres came into ownership of the château. It become extended several times until the 17th century, with amazing additions along with a gatehouse, the western bastion, and the grand flats. The interior changed into remodelled inside the 18th century, whilst the music room was built. The ultimate Le Veneur sold the château to the French country, and from 1944 it turned into restored. It is now controlled by way of the Centre des monuments nationaux and is open to the general public.
