About Castle of Ventadour
The Castle of Ventadour is in the cooperative of Moustier-Ventadour in the branch of Correze. The stronghold was worked in the 11th century, and most likely modified amid a few times of development and modifying stretching out from the 12th to the 15th century. It controlled the viscounty of Ventadour, whose political focuses were Egletons and Ussel. Ventadour turned into a district in 1350 under Philippe de Valois, and a Duchy-Peerage in 1578. It was held by the honorable group of Ventadour until 1472, when the last beneficiary wedded Louis de Levis, Baron de la Voulte.
Later the fortification gone by marriage to Rohans, and from the Rohan-Soubises-Ventadour line to the Prince of Conde, who enabled it to fall into deterioration. Sold as a national resource, the mansion bit by bit was destroyed, particularly after the Bourbon Restoration, when it was procured by the shipper and materials vendor Pertuis du Gay. It was then the property of the duke of Levis-Mirepoix. Put on a rough outcrop overhanging the valley of Luzege, just couple of remnants stay on the site of this primitive chateau, which is still astoundingly wild. The current fenced in area pursues the form of the level in this way securing a position of 170 m length and 30 m wide at its greatest.
