About Castle of Angouleme
The Castle of Angouleme was a mansion in the town of Angouleme, in the Charente departement of France. The main residual parts are the keep of Lusignan and the pinnacle of Valois, which are a piece of the Town Hall of Angouleme, together with a development of the 19th century. The rough outcrop which overwhelms the Charente River and the Anguienne had been a strategical position for quite a while. The principal stronghold on this site was worked toward the finish of the Roman Empire. A bulwark ensuring a 27 ha territory has been kept up until the thirteenth century. The medieval palace was established in around 886 by Count Alduin.
From the tenth to the 13th century, the Counts of Angouleme, the Taillifer then the Lusignan, reinforced the strongholds of the town, and expanded them to incorporate the Saint-Martial quarter. Essential augmentations to the manor were embraced by Hugh X of Lusignan in 1226. In 1308, after the passing of Guy de Lusignan, the region of Angouleme came back to the French Crown. It was then given to Louis d'Orleans in 1394, and afterward fell by legacy to his child Jean de Valois, granddad of Marguerite d'Angouleme and Francis I. The duke of Epernon, legislative head of Angoumois, got Marie de' Medici when she got away in 1619. After, the manor turned into the habitation of the governors.
