Bayeux
About Bayeux
Bayeux is a collective in the Calvados division in Normandy in northwestern France. Bayeux is the home of the Bayeux Tapestry, which portrays the occasions paving the way to the Norman victory of England. It is otherwise called the principal significant town anchored by the Allies amid Operation Overlord. Charles de Gaulle gave two celebrated talks in this town. Established as a Gallo-Roman settlement in the first century under the name Augustodurum, Bayeux is the capital of the previous region of the Baiocasses individuals of Gaul, whose name shows up in Pliny's Natural History 107.
Proof of prior human control of the region originates from invigorated Celtic camps, yet there is no proof of any major previous Celtic town before the association of Gaul in Roman civitates. Any settlement was more probable restricted to dissipated Druid cottages along the banks of the Aure and Drome waterways or on Mount Phaunus where they adored. Burial grounds have been found on the close-by Mount Phaunus demonstrating the zone as a Druid focus. Titus Sabinus, a lieutenant of Julius Caesar, exposed the Bessin district to Roman control. The fifth century Notitia provinciarum et civitatum Galliae makes reference to Suevi that had been authoritatively settled here laeti.
