About Basilica of St. Pius X

The Basilica of Saint Pius X, casually known as the Underground Basilica, is a substantial Roman Catholic church and minor basilica, situated in the town of Lourdes, France. It is a piece of the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Lourdes. Lourdes is a noteworthy Catholic journey site and the Catholic Church supports the conviction that the Virgin Mary seemed to Saint Bernadette Soubirous there. The Basilica of St. Pius X is the biggest and most disputable of the Domain's places of worship.

It was finished in 1958 fully expecting the colossal groups expected in Lourdes for the centennial of the Apparitions. A cutting edge, solid structure, it is essentially underground. The consecration of the basilica was on March 25, 1958 by Angelo Cardinal Roncalli, who was prior the Papal Nuncio to France, at that point Patriarch of Venezia, and who later progressed toward becoming Pope John XXIII. The sanctification year was chosen to praise the century of the 18 dreams of the Virgin Mary by Saint Bernadette. This basilica is one of the biggest holy places propelled by Visions of Jesus and Mary.
