About Petajavesi Old Church

The Petajavesi Old Church is a wooden church situated in Petajavesi, Finland. It was worked in the vicinity of 1763 and 1765, when Tavastia was as yet a piece of Sweden. The ringer tower was worked in 1821. It was recorded in 1994 on the UNESCO World Heritage List. The congregation is situated around 1 kilometer (0.62 mi) toward the west of the focal point of Petajavesi. The congregation left use in 1879 when the new church was manufactured. The old church has held its unique appearance and it’s inside beautification uncommonly well.

It is a well known church for weddings in the late spring, and there is a faith gathering on generally Sundays. The congregation was worked as the house of prayer for the zone of Petajavesi, which has had a place with the assembly of Jamsa. The nearby individuals had been given the consent to fabricate a burial ground and a little town church at their own cost by the crown as right on time as in 1728 on the grounds that the excursion to Jamsa was long, anyway it took around 35 years until the point that the development started.

The congregation was arranged and worked by Jaakko Klemetinpoika Leppanen, a congregation developer from Vesanka. In 1821 the windows were expanded and the sacristy was moved from the northern piece of the congregation toward the east. After the new church was constructed, the old stayed relinquished for quite a while. Just the burial ground around the congregation and the belltower were being used.
