About Helsinki Cathedral

The house of prayer was based on the site of the littler Ulrika Eleonora Church, which was committed to its patroness, Ulrika Eleonora, Queen of Sweden. A copy of this congregation, made totally from snow, was developed on Senate Square in the mid 2000s. Helsinki Old Church was worked in the vicinity of 1824 and 1826 in close-by Kamppi to serve the area while the Ulrika Eleonora Church was being pulverized and until the sanctification of the new house of prayer. The building was later adjusted by Engel's successor Ernst Lohrmann, whose four little vaults underscore the structural association with the house of prayer's model, Saint Isaac's Cathedral in St. Petersburg.

Lohrmann likewise raised two unattached chime towers, and in addition overwhelming measured zinc statues of the Twelve Apostles at the pinnacles and corners of the roofline. The altarpiece was painted via Carl Timoleon von Neff and gave to the congregation by sovereign Nicholas I. The house of God tomb was revamped in the 1980s by engineers Vilhelm Helander and Juha Leiviskä for use in shows and church capacities; Helander was additionally in charge of protection repairs on the basilica in the late 1990s.
