Hame Castle
About Hame Castle
Hame Castle is a medieval fort in Hameenlinna, Finland. Originally positioned on an island, the castle now sits at the coast of lake Vanajavesi. The fort includes a vital hold and surrounding curtain partitions, enclosed by a moat. The hold at first had five turrets, but only two are apparent these days. The curtain wall has a gatehouse, battlements, an octagonal brick nook turret, and a round gun turret. The decrease stages of the hold and curtain wall are of masoned granite and the upper degrees are crimson brickwork.
Although the exact date is disputed, the fortress is usually considered to were built in the 13th century. In addition to its status as a navy fort and domestic for Swedish the Aristocracy, the fort has visible use as a jail, and is currently a museum operated with the aid of the Finnish National Board of Antiquities. The citadel is one of the important visitor attractions of southern Finland, being the center piece of the metropolis and a popular venue for activities, including renaissance gala's.
