About Yellamma Devi

Yellamma Devi or Renuka Devi is a family god of a large number of Hindus.  It is about 90 KMS from Belgaum and 45 KMS from Dharwad. The mountain is called YellammanGudi. The sanctuary also houses Ganesha, Mallikarjun, Parashuram, Ekanath and Siddeeshwar. Yellamma or Renuka is the little girl of King Renuka Raja. She wedded paragon of piety Jamadagni and conceived 5 children. The most youthful child is Parashuram, a warrior and well known legendary figure who annihilated malice Kshatriya lords. Legend has it that on the request of his father Jamadagni, Parashuram executed his mother Renuka Devi. The father was enchanted and favored his child with one wish. Parashuram requested his mother back on that wish.
