Virgen de la Candelaria
About Virgen de la Candelaria
Virgen de la Candelaria is a traditional celebration to remember the highly respected Virgin of the Candelaria. She is believed to be young lady whose spirituality has always saved the life of local innocents from Bolivian attacks. The Virgen de la Candelaria Event observes scores of pilgrims who accumulate nearby the lake and offer religious prayers. From beginning to end of the Virgen de la Candelaria feestival, you will see all engrossed in vibrant celebration like fireworks, music and folklore dances as well as brass bands performances.
Your experience of watching the whole Virgen de la Candelaria Event is incomplete if you skip the diablada, well known dance of the devils followed by Virgin parades. It is performed by shamans of small fishing village and they wear colorful attires and tell fortunes as long as priests bless all new cars and other objects with beer. Thus more than a religious affair it seems like a full-fledged party to create a buoyant atmosphere focusing mainly on barbecues and street displays all hours of the day and night.
