About Kayin New Year

Kayin New Year Day is a national public holiday that is celebrated nationwide in Myanmar. It has been a public holiday since 2009, but it has been celebrated since 1938. The date of the Kayin New Year ies since its calculation is based on the lunar moon calendar. It is held on the first day of the month of pytho, the tenth month of the Myanmar Calendar. 
The Kayin New Year is the important time when the Kayin communities can join and celebrate their unique cultural identity within Myanmar with dance contests and songs while wearing their traditional costumes. For the festivals of the Kayin New Year Festival, Kayin focuses on language, culture and literature, Kayin national unity, and the protection of development. Kayin New Year, either young or old Kayin people wear traditional woollen tunics which is woven on red ladders and then they go around cities to meet friends and relatives to enjoy festivals.
 Dancing and kick boxing competitions are held every year in Hpa An. Hpa An is the capital of Kayin State and is situated on the eastern bank of the Thanlwin River. It is about 270 kilometres east of Yangon. This city is a logical base where to explore the cloud scraping islands of Buddhist caves, sacred mountains and surrounding countryside.
