About Chapchar Kut in Mizoram

 

The Chapchar Kut is a competition of Mizoram, India. It is well known at some point of March after finishing touch of their maximum laborious venture of jhum operation i.E., jungle-clearing. It is a spring competition celebrated with splendid favour and gaiety. Oral traditions say Chapchar Kut become first celebrated in Seipui village in adjoining Myanmar that has a widespread populace of Mizos and their ethnic cousins. Chapchar Kut was celebrated to thank the gods for saving the human beings from damage at some point of the clearing of wooded area on hill slopes for jhum cultivation at the start of a 12 months.

 

The competition was found with quite a few consuming and eating. On the primary night the young men and women might dance all night time. The women would come dressed wearing a Vakira. Chai dance has its origins on this pageant. Today, the pageant is determined inside the closing a part of February or the early part of March when the bushes and bamboos felled for jhum are left to dry and the transferring cultivators have time to relax and revel in.
