Amavasya
About Amavasya
Amavasya is the no moon day while some also refer to it as the new moon day in a traditional Hindu lunar calendar. The fortnight that starts after the Amavasya is the ShuklaPaksha or the waxing phase of the moon. Most Hindus observe a fast on the Amavasya day and offer food to their ancestors. According to the Vishnu Dharma Shastra, it is said that if you offer Shraddha rituals to your ancestors on this day, it gives them peace. This is also the perfect day to perform Kalsarpadosha puja.
