About Abu Simbel Festival
Abu Simbel festival is celebrated in Egypt. Abu Simbel festival celebrates the combination of human endeavor and natural phenomena which provides one of the most spectacular sights in the world. Abu Simbel festival celebrates Ramses II precision and architectural egotism, which carefully angled his temple at Abu Simbel so that the inner sanctum would light up twice a year - once on the anniversary of his rise to the throne, and once on his birthday.
Of the several buildings King Ramses II built, Abu Simbel is considered the most impressive. The Sun Temple has been sitting along the Niles banks since 1250 BC in southern Egypt, carved into the sandstone cliffs facing eastwards.
During the Abu Simbel Festival crowds fill the temple at sunrise to watch the shafts of light creeping across the stone, illuminating the statues of Ramses, Ra and Amun. The first thing that comes into notice is the facade of the temple with the four 108 feet high colossal statues of Ramses guarding the entrance way, which leads into a grand hall separating into two smaller treasury rooms. Further into this labyrinth will take you to the Hypostyle hall filled with flowered pillars and scenes of the Kings family. After the spectacle the crowds join in celebrations outside of music, dancing, eating, drinking, markets and fun. Plan trip now for Abu Simbel festival.
