Esna

Esna is a town of Egypt. It is located on the west financial institution of the Nile some 55 km south of Luxor. The town became previously part of the modern-day Qena Governorate, but as of 9/12/2009, it became incorporated into the brand new Luxor Governorate. This town of Latopolis inside the Thebaid of Upper Egypt should not be pressured with the extra northerly town of Letopolis, historic Khem, modern-day Ausim, within the Nile Delta in Lower Egypt.

The call "Latopolis" is in honor of the Nile perch, Lates niloticus, the largest of the 52 species which inhabit the Nile, which became ample in these stretches of the river in historic times, and which appears in sculptures, a number of the symbols of the goddess Neith, related by way of the historical Greeks as Pallas-Athene, surrounded by the oval guard or ring indicative of royalty or divinity. Held sacred, the Lates niloticus turned into buried in a cemetery west of the town.
