Puerto Baquerizo Moreno

Puerto Baquerizo Moreno is the capital of Galápagos Province, Ecuador. It is located at the southwestern coast of San Cristobal, the easternmost island inside the archipelago, and is the capital of San Cristóbal Canton. It became based by General Villamil Playas inside the mid-nineteenth century, and takes its call from President Alfredo Baquerizo Moreno 1859 to 1951. Today, fishing is the main interest of the locals, but tourism is on the growth along the waterfront with severa motels and stores.

General Villamil founded the metropolis within the mid-19th century, however it takes its call from Alfredo Baquerizo Moreno 1859 to 1951, the first president to visit in the course of his presidency, in 1916. The Governor of Galápagos resides in the town. The Governor's house is a prominent grey stone edifice which also homes the Naval headquarters, and is 0.2 miles west-northwest of the church. Puerto Baquerizo Moreno is the oldest settlement inside the Galapagos Islands. The El Progreso agricultural centre, located about 8 kilometres from the town, became established in 1879 as a Hacienda Progreso.
