About Viking Castle Fyrkat
Fyrkat is a former Viking ring fortress in Denmark, relationship from c. 980 AD. It is placed near the town of Hobro, far from the existing cease of the Mariager Fjord in Northern Jutland. The castle is built on a slender piece of land, with a movement on one aspect and swampy region on the other aspects. It would have enabled control of the site visitors on the principle land route between Aalborg and Aarhus.
Like the opposite ring castles at Aggersborg or Trelleborg near Slagelse it is designed as precise circle with four gates contrary to each other and connected by using timber roads that go in a right angle in the exact center of the citadel. A circle avenue gave access to the wall. In every of the 4 quarters stood four Longhouses of the identical layout organized in a square with a smaller house inside the center.
