About Ttd Fisheries and Maritime Museum, Esbjerg
The Fisheries and Maritime Museum is a privately owned museum in Esbjerg, Denmark. Opened to the public in 1968, it consists of a saltwater aquarium for local species and a "sealarium" showcase for seals as well as indoor and out of doors exhibitions on Danish fisheries and transport. The idea of making a Danish fisheries museum with an aquarium got here from the journalist Hakon Mielche in 1941. In 1962, a making plans committee become formed in Esbjerg which quickly brought about the collection of artefacts. Building started in 1966, allowing the privately owned group to be opened to the public in 1968. From the start, the museum contained a fisheries exhibition and a saltwater aquarium.
A sealarium become added in 1976. In 1989 a start was made on an out of doors exhibition which was later extended. The museum set up a studies unit in 1994, accompanied in 2000 by means of the Centre for Maritime and Regional Studies a cooperative mission with the University of Southern Denmark. In 1999, a five-storey museum building with nearly 2,000 m2 22,000 squareft of floor space changed into inaugurated, housing a new everlasting exhibition, a library.
