Stevns Klint UNESCO World Heritage
About Stevns Klint UNESCO World Heritage
Stevns Klint is a white chalk cliff placed some 6 km southeast of Store Heddinge at the Danish island of Zealand. Stretching 17 km along the coast, it's far of geological significance as one of the high-quality exposed Cretaceous-Tertiary boundaries inside the global. Subject to frequent erosion, the cliff rises to a top of up to 40 m. The cliffs are a UNESCO web page. The cliff exhibits sections from the uppermost a part of the Maastrichtian stage and from the lowermost a part of the Danian degree.
The darkish layer of Fiskeler, in particular five to 10 centimeters thick, truely marks the Cretaceous-Paleogene boundary. The Fiskeler is enriched in iridium, a reality used as a controversy for the Alvarez hypothesis that the global Cretaceous Paleogene mass extinction turned into due to the impact of an asteroid. The layers also can be visible deep in the tunnels of Stevnsfortet, a chilly-war castle constructed in 1953. The bryozoa chalk inside the cliff is exceptionally surprise proof against both traditional and nuclear weapons.
