About St. Paul's Church

St. Paul's Church is a Romanesque church near Nexo at the Danish island of Bornholm. Unlike similar church buildings on the island, it has no tower. Located on a hilltop in south-jap Bornholm, St. Paul's, the youngest of the island's Romanesque church buildings, includes an apse, chancel and nave. Built c. 1248, it's far distinct in this is does now not have an integrated tower. It does, however, have a separate, properly-designed bell tower with a 1/2-timbered belfry which at the beginning served because the gateway to the churchyard. In 1871, the nave changed into lengthened some four metres in the direction of the west.

A fleur-de-lys can be visible above the door of the south porch. The church has numerous properly-preserved frescoes from c. 1560, some depicting scenes from the Easter tale, others with animals at play. The Renaissance pulpit from c. 1600 is similar to the only in Nexo Church which additionally has arched panels. The apse has 3 Romanesque home windows with a pass-shaped finish. The Late Romanesque limestone font is from Gotland. The organ from 1973 turned into built by Poul-Gerhard Andersen.
