About Sand-Covered Church

Around 2 km southwest of the town focus of Skagen, in Denmark, is a block church half covered in sand. Known as Old Skagen Church or The Buried Church, this fourteenth-century church devoted to Saint Lawrence of Rome was a colossal structure with since quite a while ago vaulted nave, outside supports, and a pinnacle with crow-ventured peak.

The building was 45 meters in length and the pinnacle was 22 meters tall. Amid the last 50% of the eighteenth century, the congregation was somewhat covered by sand from adjacent hills.

For quite a long time, the assemblage attempted to keep the congregation free of sand, digging out the passageway each time an administration was to be held.

They surrendered in 1795 and the congregation was decimated, leaving the pinnacle as the main piece of the first structure as yet standing. Roughly 18 meters of the pinnacle is obvious over the sand today.
