Kalo Castle
About Kalo Castle
Kalo Castle is a ruined castle positioned in eastern Jutland, in Denmark, 20 km from the city of Aarhus within Mols Bjerge National Park. The castle became based in 1313 with the aid of the Danish king Erik Menved. It was one of at least 4 similar strongholds in Jutland, constructed to counter the continuing rebellions of the Jutlandic the Aristocracy and peasantry in opposition to the Crown. The different strongholds have been Borgvold in Viborg, Bygholm in Horsens and Ulstrup, east of Struer.
All had been constructed with the aid of nearby peasants forced labour, with the goal of breaking their rebellious spirits. Kalo Slot turned into raised at the small island of Kalo, related to the mainland with the aid of a 500 m long artificial embankment, growing 1,2 m above sea stage. The embankment was cobbled; deep moats have been dug and earth mounds heaped across the fortress. A port of name, outer ringwalls and different fortifications have been all constructed by way of hand. This become a big mission inside the early 14th century.
