About Hvidovre
Hvidovre is the principle town in Hvidovre Municipality, Denmark. The metropolis, a suburb of Copenhagen, is about 10 km southwest of the capital's center. Hvidovre has been inhabited on account that prehistoric times. In 1929, a 3,500-yr-vintage sword from the Bronze Age became excavated in Hvidovre. A farm, Ovre, became positioned inside the region in about 1160 while Esbern Snare gave it to Sorø Abbey that later handed it directly to Bishop Absalon. A church was constructed during the Romanesque period. The name Hvidovre, meaning White Ovre, refers to the colour of the church, which was constructed in white chalk, in place of the one in Rodovre, Red Ovre, which was constructed in crimson brick.
At the flip of the 20 th century, Hvidovre become still a quiet rural community. In 1901, the parish still handiest had a population of 500. Some of the land closest to the border with Copenhagen became converted into allotments inside the Nineteen Twenties. At the quit of World War One, Copenhagen suffered from extreme housing shortage. Many of the farmers in Hvidovre noticed it as an opportunity to make a widespread profit via promoting their land off in small masses.
