About Esbjerg Art Museum
The Esbjerg Art Museum Danish: Esbjerg Kunstmuseum is an independly owned artwork museum in Esberg in southwest Jutland, Denmark. Founded in 1910, in 1962 it moved into a brand new constructing in the City Park designed with the aid of Jytte og Ove Tapdrup. Since 1997, the museum has shaped a part of a complex which also carries the Esbjerg Performing Arts Centre. Founded as Esbjerg Kunstforening Esberg's Art Association in 1910, the museum became first positioned within the public library Esbjerg Bibliotek in 1927. In 1930, it purchased works by modernists such as Harald Giersing, Edvard Weie and Vilhelm Lundstrøm. After stepping into the new building in the City Park in 1962, the museum acquired concrete works through Richard Mortensen and Robert Jacobsen in addition to works from artists participating inside the Linien and Linien II associations.
Originally called Kunstpavillonen the Art Pavilion, the building in the City Park turned into designed through Jytte and Ove Tapdrup. Commanding an super role near the Water Tower overlooking the harbour, the complex consists of a low everlasting art gallery wing to the north and a -storey exhibition vicinity to the south.
