Ross island was the headquarter of the British colony in A&N. On visiting the island, one can understand the reasons why British chose Ross Island as their head quarter. The place gives picturesque views from all around. Ross still has ruins of some of the buildings that were built during British period. Though they have now been engulfed by the roots of huge trees but watching these buildings makes one nostalgic. The place can boast of the ruins of a British Church, Mansion, Market etc. There is also a small museum that has pictures taken and drawn in those times. The back side of the Ross Island gives a lovely view of the open sea. You can sit for hours reveling in the cool breeze and the amazing sea view. Next stop will be North Bay Islands, which offers wide array of water activities that one can enjoy. Sea walk has recently been introduced. Along with sea walk, you can do jet ski, speed water boat ride, snorkeling and other such activities at the beautiful North Bay Island.

In the early morning, check out from hotel at Port Blair and start for Phoneix Bay Jetty from where, you have to take a ferry ride to Havelock. After checking in at the hotel in Hevelock Islands, you can visit Havelock Beach and thereafter head to Radhanagar Beach. Havelock is a picturesque natural paradise with beautiful white sandy beaches, rich coral reefs and lush green forest. Radhanagar Beach lies on the south coast of Havelock Island. It is about 12 kilometers from the Islands ferry pier. Radhanagar beach is rated as one of the best beaches in Asia by TIME Magazine.

In the morning, check out from the hotel and head to Elephant beach. Elephant beach is another ideal site for snorkeling. It has a rich coral reef formation and amazing underwater marine life. One can reach Elephant beach by small cruise boat from Havelock Jetty in about 40 minutes. By road one can go up to the Forest Camp which is 8 Kms from the Jetty towards Radhanagar side and from there by walk to the Elephant beach which will take another 40 minutes. After coming back, head to the Jetty for a ferry ride to Port Blair.

After tiring trips to different islands, take a break and move around the Port Blair city at your leisure. Apart from other things, you can buy trinkets and souvenirs from local materials like shell, bamboo and coconut, which are available in plenty. You can also buy pearl jewellery, mats made from local padauk wood and driftwood pieces from the Sagarika Government Emporium. If you like, you may visit Water Sports Complex, Gandhi Park, Marina Amusement Park, Chatham Sawmill, Zui Museum as well. Water Sports Complex is another place that merits a visit. If you love aqua sports then this is the place for you. Indulge in sports like water skiing, speed boating, and wind surfing at the Water Sports Complex. In case you are interested in history then there is a memorial for the battle between Britishers and Andaman’s aboriginals. Gandhi Park – a striking park at Port Blair was an erstwhile Dhiltaman Tank – the sole source of drinking water to Port Blair, which was developed into a park within 13 days. The park includes facilities like nature trails, lake, garden, restaurant, and a Japanese Temple. Children will enjoy themselves at an amusement park. With rides like giant wheels, dragon coaster and toy train, Marina Amusement Park is another place you must visit at Port Blair. Located adjacent to the Water Sports Complex, the park boasts of a miniature botanical garden and a statue of Subhash Chandra Bose a mute reminder of the colonial past. Chatham Sawmill is one of the oldest saw mill in India once owned by East India Company. Now the mill also has a museum which showcases the various artifacts made out of wood. You can also see the sawmill in action. Maintained by the Zoological Survey of India, the Zsi Museum exhibits a huge variety of sponges, corals, butterflies, and centipedes in addition to other animals. The museum is located near the Andaman Teal House and also houses a research library.

After checking out, you bid good bye to Port Blair and head to the Airport with memories and promise to come back again.
