It Is Carved Out Of A Single Block Of Granite. It Is 39 Feet (12 M) High And Weighs About 170 Tonnes. It Was Sculpted In 1973 By Renjala Gopalkrishna Shenoy And Installed In 1982 By Dr. D. The Statue Depicts Bahubali In A Standing Posture Of Meditation (Kayotsarga), With Vines Growing Around His Legs, Symbolising His Long Penance And Detachment From Worldly Affairs. The Statue Has Curly Hair, Large Ears, Half-Open Eyes, A Serene Expression And A Faint Smile. The Statue Is Nude, Representing The Digambara Sect Of Jainism, Which Believes In Renouncing All Possessions And Attachments. The Statue Is Considered To Be Very Sacred And Auspicious By The Jains, Who Believe That Bahubali Attained Omniscience (Kevala Jnana) After His Meditation. The Temple Does Not Have A Garbhagudi Or A Sanctum Sanctorum, Where The Idol Is Usually Placed. Instead, The Idol Of Ganesha Is Installed In An Open Field, Where Devotees Can Worship Him From All Directions. The Temple Is Decorated With Thousands Of Bells Of Different Sizes And Shapes, Which Are Offered By The Devotees Who Have Their Wishes Fulfilled By Ganesha.
