About Sarayonu Square
Sarayonu is a square in North Nicosia. It is the focal point of the Turkish piece of the city and was the authoritative focus of the island for a considerable length of time. The Turkish Cypriot central Law Courts, the Nicosia Post Office, and furthermore a police home office and different banks in the square. The path of Girne Avenue shut in the square. The important British definitive records indicate the square as "Serai Eunu Meidanlik" "Sarayonu Meydanligi", Sarayonu Square and "Hioukioumet Konaghi Meidani". The name was then changed to "Konak Square" "Mansion Square" before the latest significant lots of British power on the island. The square was formally renamed "Ataturk Square" after Turkish statesman Mustafa Kemal Ataturk in 1943 by the Nicosia Municipality under Themistoklis Dervis.
