About Ledra Street

Ledra Street is a major shopping thoroughfare in central Nicosia, Cyprus, which links North Nicosia, the part of the city under the control of the de facto Northern Cyprus, and south Nicosia. It is the site of the previous Ledra Street blockade, over the United Nations cradle zone. The blockade symbolized the division of Nicosia between the Greek south and Turkish north. It was expelled in April 2008 and Ledra Street turned into the 6th going between the southern and northern parts of Cyprus. Ledra Street runs parallel to Onasagorou Street. The name of the road alludes to the old city-kingdom of Ledra, built up in 1050 BC, that was situated in the focal point of the island where the capital city is today.

The road opens Eleftheria square, keeps running in a South to North course and is around 1 km long. Its majority exists in the region adequately controlled by the Republic of Cyprus while a short stretch at the northern end between the UN support zone and the crossing point with Arasta Street and Girne Caddesi falls inside the Turkish piece of Nicosia. Generally, Ledra Street was the fundamental shopping road of the capital, in spite of the fact that as of late it has been superseded by more available bouleds farther from the middle. Properties in the city are to a great extent for business utilize and order a portion of the most noteworthy land costs on the island.
