Yara

Yara is a small metropolis and municipality in the Granma Province of Cuba, located halfway maximum of the towns of Bayamo and Manzanillo, in the Gulf of Guacanayabo. Yara manner "location" within the Taino language. The Taino Cacique Hatuey turned into burnt on the stake in Yara, on February 2, 1512, after he prepared a guerrilla warfare in opposition to the Spaniards. Hatuey is called "Cuba's First National Hero". This movement gave beginning to one of Cuban mayor's myths; "La Luz de Yara", The Light of Yara.

On October 10, 1868, the start of the Ten Years' War in Cuba occurred and is known as El Grito de Yara and became the start of the First Cuban War of Independence. Yara became set up as a municipality in 1912, even as Manzanillo emerge as split up. The municipality is cut up into the barrios of Yara, Yara Arriba, Veguitas, Buey de Gallego, Coco, Caboa, Cabagan, Calambrosio, Canabacoa, Cayo Redondo, José Martí, Los Cayos, Mateo Romás and Sofia.
