Niquero

Niquero is a municipality and town inside the Granma Province of Cuba. It is placed within the coastal location of the province, bordering the Gulf of Guacanayabo. Cape Cruz, the westernmost point of the province is located on this municipality. During Cuban Revolution, Niquero was the website of the touchdown of Granma, a yacht boarded with the aid of eighty two individuals of the twenty sixth of July Movement, which include Fidel Castro, Raul Castro, Che Guevara and Camilo Cienfuegos. On 2 December 1956 the yacht, departed from Tuxpan, in Mexico, landed in Los Cayuelos close to the seaside Playa Las Coloradas, few km in south of the town.

The Desembarco del Granma National Park, placed in south of the municipality, changed into named after the occasion. The municipality is divided into the barrios of Belic, Guanito, Jagua, La Marea, El Platano, Sevilla Abajo, Cabo Cruz, Hondon, Marea de Belic, Alegria de Pio, Estacadero, La Ricardo, and many others. In 2004, the municipality of Niquero had a population of forty one,252. With a total vicinity of 582 km2, it has a populace density of 70.9/km2.
