About Historic Centre of Cienfuegos

The Historic Centre of Cienfuegos, is placed in the metropolis of Cienfuegos in Cuba. It became d a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2005. While visited by way of Columbus in 1494, the vicinity changed into first settled by means of pirates and freebooters starting in the 1600s. Early settlers, often known as "buccaneers", raised farm animals and made jerky to deliver to the privateers and others who sought safe haven in the bay. By 1740 they were raising tobacco as well. In 1742 King Philip V of Spain built Fort Jagua to suppress the pirates' use of Cienfuegos Bay.

The city became formally based on 22 April 1819 through French and Spanish settlers under the command of Don Luis De Clouet y Favrot. The streets had been laid out essentially north-south, east-west, forming rectangular blocks. Today, the town centre nevertheless retains eclectic structure from the 19th and early twentieth centuries, plenty with neoclassical decoration. This is the quality place to visit.
