About Vodnjan
Vodnjan is a city and municipality in Istria County, Croatia, placed approximately 10 kilometers north of largest metropolis in Istria, Pula. According to the legend, it evolved out of the association of 7 villas which were part of the colonial goods of Pula-Pola. Dignano became known as early as Roman instances as Vicus Attinianum and indexed in historic information in 932 on the time of Pietro Candiniano, to whom the Istrian towns have been giving amphorae of excellent wine in exchange of protection. Inside the historical nucleus, the town preserved its feature Medieval look with atria and narrow streets, irregularly winding among houses, with cobble roads and façades manufactured from cobble stone, antique streets still impressively recognizable by using their Gothic, Venetian Renaissance and Baroque fashion and plenty of church buildings wealthy with memories and art.
Among many, inside the antique metropolis there may be St. Jacob Church or delle Trisiere that turned into specific as a parochial church as early as 1212, a church that witnessed a few essential historical occasions including the peace agreement with Pula-Pola in 1331 and the writing of the Statute of 1492.
