About Valpovo
Valpovo is a town in Slavonia, Croatia. It is near the Drava river within the location of Slavonia, 25 km northwest of Osijek. The population of Valpovo is 7,406, with a total of eleven,563 in the municipality. In Hungarian the city is known as Valpo and in German as Walpach. In antiquity, it was called Iovalum. There are several suggested etymologies. One is that it comes from the Latin root Iov-, which means "divine". However, the ending can not be explained by way of Latin. One clarification is that it comes from the Indo-European phrases yow and h2elut, so that it means "magical beer."
