About Starigrad Fortress
Starigrad Fortress is a 15th century fort positioned near Omis in Split-Dalmatia county, in Dalmatia, Croatia. The castle or Fortica was built for the duration of the Croatian Ottoman wars as a primary defence in opposition to the Ottoman Empire. The precipitous fortification is sited on a 262 m ridge above the town Omis.
In the event of attack, its reason changed into to offer safe haven for neighborhood people and be a stronghold where they could retreat to and face up to the Turks. As the stone citadel's defensive strength is derived from the elevation at which it became built, it's far a rudimentary protecting structure. A -storey rectangular tower stands at its highest point, serving as each a lookout post and keep. A simple bastion stands at the opposite stop of the fortress to cowl the approach direction and the ridge line. It has an outer barbican to protect the fort's slender entrance gateway and the gorge beneath the fortress. The walls, that are approximately 1 m thick, are crafted from domestically quarried limestone.
