About St Marks Church
The Church of St. Mark is the parish church of vintage Zagreb, Croatia, placed in St. Mark's Square. The Romanesque window placed in its south facade is the exceptional evidence that the church should had been constructed as early because the 13th century as is also the semicircular ground-plan of St. Mary's chapel. In the second half of of the 14th century, the church became noticeably reconstructed. It became then have become a late Gothic church of the 3 nave type.
Massive spherical columns help heavy ribbed vaults reduce in stone and an air of peace and sublimity characterizes the church interior in its simplicity. The maximum treasured a part of St. Mark's Church is its south portal, considered to be the paintings of sculptors of the Parler family from Prague. The Gothic composition of the portal consists of 15 effigies located in eleven shallow niches. On top are the statues of Joseph and Mary with the toddler Jesus and underneath them viable see St. Mark and the Lion; the 12 Apostles are located on each sides of the portal 4 timber statues replaced the precise ones which were destroyed.
