St Blaises Church
About St Blaises Church
The Church of St. Blaise is a Baroque church in Dubrovnik and one of the city's primary sights. Saint Blaise, diagnosed by way of medieval Slavs with the pagan god Veles, is the consumer saint of the city of Dubrovnik and previously the protector of the independent Republic of Ragusa. The church turned into built in 1715 by the Venetian architect and sculptor Marino Gropelli 1662 to 1728 at the foundations of the badly broken Romanesque medieval church.
He modeled the church on Sansovino's Venetian church of San Maurizio. The church includes a unmarried rectangular nave with a floor plan inside the shape of an inscribed Greek move, an apse flanked with the aid of sacristies and an oblong cupola within the middle. A flight of stairs results in the portal, adorned with statues of angels. The facade is divided through 4 Corinthian columns. On pinnacle of the facade is a semicircular gable and a balustrade with 3 statues by Marino Gropelli: a free standing Saint Blaise and personifications of Faith and Hope.
