About Krka monastery

Krka Monastery is a Serbian Orthodox monastery committed to the Archangel Michael, placed close to the river Krka, three km east of Kistanje, in vital Dalmatia, Croatia. It is the quality known monastery of the Serbian Orthodox Church in Croatia and it's miles officially protected as part of the Krka National Park. It dates back to the 14th century. The oldest extant mention of the monastery was in 1345, while it's miles indexed as an endowment of princess Jelena Nemanjic Subic, 1/2-sister of the Serbian emperor Dusan and spouse of Mladen III Subic Bribirski, neighborhood duke of Skradin and Bribir.

The monastery became built on top of a Roman web site, and Roman burial catacombs exist below part of the church. The modern church of St. Archangel was erected in 1422 at the location of an in advance Gothic shape. Ottoman Turks devastated the church around 1530 however it become restored on several activities. Other monastery buildings, the church, and the bellfry are located around a square cloister with arcades.
